How an American landed in Shetland.

Hi, I'm Liz. I currently live in Shetland, an archipelago in northern Scotland, but I'm from the US, grew up in sunny southern California. After getting my Bachelor of Journalism degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia, I worked in ABC affiliate newsrooms in Oklahoma, Florida and New York.

When my son was born, I left broadcast journalism, opting for a 9-5 job at the State University of New York, Rockefeller College Professional Development Program, where I produced educational/training videos and programs.

I still have my hand in video production, as well as teaching it at the University of the Highlands and Islands/Shetland College. When you live on an island, you take on a number of jobs. Not only do I teach the courses, I developed the curriculum; I don't just produce videos, I direct, write, shoot and edit— a regular "Jack of all trades, Master of..."

I'm getting there. In May 2017, I'll have my Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology.
